Ladytron - Velocifero

Sunday, April 13, 2008

Velocifero definitely sounds like Ladytron. Danceable, sad and glittering. Velocifero has some electronic elements in the sound spinning around some Gary Numan, Human League and Kraftwerk. First six tracks are nearly the most sharp Ladytron works. After, it becomes darker, and it sounds quite good. If you look other indie pop, electronic combo from the year, Ladytron may be the only recognizable name. A standout piece of electronic pop song, Season Of Illusions summers that, this band won't stop releasing albums like 604, Light & Magic and Witching Hour. They're all great, and have enough power to break into mainstream music. Fantastic!

Moby - Last Night

Thursday, March 27, 2008

Portishead - Third

Saturday, March 15, 2008

Rating: 9/10

Glory Box, Roads, Numb... As you know, these are the miraculous Portishead songs. They are one of that groups that are impossible to categorize. NYC Live (1998) was the last Portishead record. Ten years after, the new album has arrived. It's like dance music for skeletons in a graveyard. Sometimes dark and cold, sometimes panicky and noisy. At the end it's someting new quite admirable.

Ten years! First three track Silence, Hunter and Nylon Smile are going to make the long colder and colder. Nylon Smile is a great effort. The Rip is more ballad-like track and starting acoustically then turning to a electronic rhythm. Beth Gibbons made me feel very happy, cause she had never lost her amazing vocal talent. On the other hand some of the songs like Plastic, Small are headache and they're something unnecessary. Anyway, if you consider all those other huge new songs, Third is one of the best new things in the year. The song that named with We Carry On combines rock elements electronically, I think you'll remember the Joy Division shadows with this song. Machine Gun is a simple reason how this band brings something quite impressive. Third is a miracle and miracles come after the silence.

MM picks: Nylon Smile, We Carry On, Machine Gun, Magic Doors

Hercules & Love Affair

Thursday, March 13, 2008

Hercules & Love Affair prove that disco music never loses its brightness and creativity. Blind and some part of the album are featuring our dear Antony Hegarty ( vocal of Antony the Johnsons). Hercules & Love Affair most notably is the best thing that I've heard in a long time. Modern, melancholic and the best part of it, it's more danceable than any commercial pop records in 2008.

We always love praising good music. Hercules & Love Affair is definitely lovely job that you should hear.

Supergrass - Diamond Hoo Ha Man

Saturday, February 23, 2008

Supergrass know how to always remain cool! Their debut I Should Coco made it into the pop charts. Previous record Road to Rouen is my favorite which has three perfect Supergrass cut, and they're St. Petersburg, Road to Rouen and Sad Girl. They had relesead five all good record And with Diamond Hoo Ha, they continue to play roots lie in the infectiously catchy punk-pop music. Diamond Hoo Ha is kinda likeable, it's one of nice rock records i loved in 2008.

Tindersticks - The Hungry Saw - Review

Wednesday, February 13, 2008

The Hungry Saw
Rating:10/10
This is not another band with "s". Once you discovered them, you play their music during long time. Romanticism is the greatest gift God gave to you. Some thinks that he or she isn't romantic, because it didn't being discovered yet. You maybe need to feel "spark!!" or just read someone else's stories. Watch some movie like Woody Allen's Manhattan, Casablanca or two romantic masterpiece of Richard Linklater Before Sunset, Before Sunrise...and listen Tindersticks' records. I shouldn't say which album is the recommended one, because there is always some stardust on their all songs. Tindersticks were one of the most original and distinctive British acts of the '90s,
no they weren't playing Madchester or Britpop...They're quite different both original and bizarre.Their music waits for the right time to get you completely with melancholy.

The Hungry Saw summarizes what happens if a band tries hard writing a wholly record . The new album carries all Staples love within all lyrics and vocals. In 2007, a stripped-down line-up of three of the original band, Staples, Boulter and Fraser, spent time writing and recording in a newly equipped studio in Limousin, France. They were joined by Thomas Belhom on drums and Dan McKinna on bass, with Ian Caple engineering. This record is more striking than any Tindersticks album, something more white or less toneless. The results is another unique Tindersticks job. All The Love, Yesterday Tomorrows are brilliant keytracks with no doubt, moreover magical and soundtrack-like Feel The Sun is the best new love ballad. Upbeat and rocker cut "E Type" delivers joyful, wonderful moments. And for music lovers, Nottingham based critically acclaimed band again reaches to gold status. A modern classic.

MM picks: Yesterday Tomorrows, Feel The Sun, E Type, The Other Side Of The World, Boobar

Smile clearly proves that rock n' roll never dies in any language or in any form of direction of this music. For me, Boris is also one of the most amazing, shoking and fuc*ing rock band in these days.

Arid - All Things Come in Waves

Wednesday, January 30, 2008

“Why do you run” should warm the hearts of fans of Belgian pop at the tail end of 2007. This scintillating pop single bears good tidings. To celebrate the group’s tenth anniversary, Arid are finally releasing their third album, five years after “All is quiet now”. Despite the clear success of their first two albums, the vocalist Jasper Steverlinck took the chance to go solo, with this period of his career being marked by the successful cover of David Bowie’s “Life on Mars”, followed by his first solo record. Singles such as “Life” and “Believer” are to date unique in the history of Belgian rock, so it is fantastic to see Arid back in great form. Thanks to this exceptional singer, their elegant and refined brand of rock with twirling guitars contains many more nuances than all the Coldplay and Placebo tunes put together. THE MEDIADIS.COM REVIEW

MM review
This record absolutely deserves a listen. I'm amazed that Jasper Steverlinck has improved his vocals so much. I'm also letting you know about their best song "You Are". If you looking for simple lyrics with combination of piano /guitar driven catchy melodies, discover Arid! I want write more about this great record, and i'll do it.

Neon Neon - I Lust U

Monday, January 21, 2008

Neon Neon is the artist name for the combined musical powers of Los Angeles based producer Boom Bip and Super Furry Animals main man and solo star Gruff Rhys. The single from the electro-pop duo features Cate Le Bon on vocals, and will appear on the band’s forthcoming debut album, ‘Stainless Style’, also expected to be released in March. This song reminds me the beautiful 80s.

Xiu Xiu - Women As Lovers

Saturday, January 12, 2008

One of my recent favorite bands Xiu Xiu records another awesome thing, which is named "Women as Lovers", and included with a new Under Pressure (Queen&Bowie) cover. Honestly i first listened up this amazing cover, it's been an extra ordinary and successful version than any other Under Pressure covers. If you consider listening previous untouchable, deep and unapproachable Xiu Xiu albums, this album is more reachable than any of them. It's full of emotion, and i really have to appreciate these tracks, each of them is charming. I can't say that this is the best expression of Xiu Xiu's sad music, but Jamie Stewart's confrontational vocals are the best for sure. With this new album, i can say this the best new music. My song picks are: Gayle Lynn, Master of the bump, No friend oh!, The Leash, Under Pressure feat. Michael Gira.

The Mountain Goats - Heretic Pride - Review

Tuesday, January 01, 2008

Rating: 9.5/10
Taking the name from the Screamin' Jay Hawkins song "Big Yellow Coat, my favorite bonelazy rock band (mostly John Darnielle himself as a band) this time write excellent thirteen songs which almost make me to jumb and shout 'Hell Yes'. It's a future classic, an underground treasure... Think of unique impression Cocteau Twins' Treasure Record, now Heretic Pride is like country version of that dream pop music. I tried to play them together, the result comes like a miracle. This record must be my new favorite record. The disc was produced by John Vanderslice and Scott Solter at Prairie Sun Studio, i didn't surprise to it, because record sounds so amazing and so good. He's an indie god but noone explores his records.

John Darnielle appears with his the agriest vocal contribution on some of the songs; Heretic Pride, In The Craters On The Moon, Lovecraft In Brooklyn and So Desprate. Lyrics are also essential like previous the Mountain Goats, mature, ironic, bright... you'll notice after playing my picks below.

Emotional classics like R.E.M.'s Automatic for the People, Coctea Twins' Treasure or Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, this record "Heretic Pride" provides timeless music. A must have! Believe to your own ears. The record's out on the 19th February.
MM picks: Heretic Pride, So Desperate, In The Craters On The Moon, Lovecraft In Brooklyn

Love Is All - Love Is All Mixed Up

Tuesday, December 25, 2007

2008 mini album featuring a selection of remixes of songs from their debut album Nine Times That Same Song, reinterpreted by their contemporaries. This remixes can be my winter dance favorites. Because they sound so good. Felt Tip (Hot Chip Remix) combines beauty of female voice and space beats, the song is really a masterpiece with the saxophone final. The Bees deliver a tough and straight up Funk version of 'Make Out Fall Out Make Up'. Othercontributions include Metronomy's killer mix of 'Spinning And Scratching' and Tapedeck's DIY Rave take on 'Busy Doing Nothing' plus other stunning remixes by Chicken Lips, Optimo, Maps, Fryars and Studio. Parlophone. Without doubt, Love Is All Mixed Up can be highly recommended to every independent electronic music listener as best new music. Every song in this record sound professionally good.

Britney Spears - Blackout - Review

Saturday, December 15, 2007

Rating: 8.5/10

Really? Legendary Britney Spears impressed me as a young female singer, but this time not with her scandals in magazine industry. This time she releases a good record which is comprised of modern pop, disco and electronic music. I don't think like she's a falling star, she has learned a lot from making mistakes. For a pop star like Britney, the first single Gimme More maybe can't be a good reborn. You're right if you think this record is good because of those important names in writing and mixing the record. Anyway, she sings with her soul, she improved her taste in music, she's again a big teen idol, this time much stronger. Radar which song recalls glourous 80s back and it becomes one of the keytracks. It sounds like Soft Cell's Tainted Love cover. Maybe, her overdosed private life on everywhere hides the beauty of this record, i'll recommend this album to anyone loves modern pop music. Listening pop music doesn't make you an idiot, and "rock" isn't cool much as you think. It's the music which helps to put some extra happiness to your life, not the genre. Why Should I Be Sad closes the whole record with its dark, sexy sound, and depressed lyrics. Blackout is great for dancing, the best album of her career.

Aloha - Light Works - Review

Sunday, November 11, 2007

Street Date: December 4
Label: Polyvinyl
MM Rating: 9/10

Ohio's experimental rock quartet Aloha consists of guitarist/vocalist Tony Cavallario, bassist Matthew Gengler, multi-instrumentalist/percussionist Eric Koltnow, and drummer Cale Parks. With thier new EP Light Works , Aloha combines the purest form of post rock music, and this is why they sound both experimental and pop at the same time. Since thier critically acclaimed debut That's Your Fire, they use less complex drumming, complex lyrics, and make the music stronger with limpid vocals of Tony Cavallario. This is the music that i can be fan of, because discovery consists of people's nature. Discovering beauty of educated music is the main goodness why this is my recommended music. These seven songs have indeed been a clear work.

Aloha - The End

Ray Davies - Working Man's Cafe - Review

Thursday, November 01, 2007

Rating: 8.5/10
I'm very happy, because here comes a great rock record from one of my favorite artists eighteen months after releasing his first ever solo album. Ray Davies, the man who beyond the famous British invasion band The Kinks. His previous "Other People's Lives"! is already included in my favorites of 2006.

Working Man’s Café is Ray Davies’ third album. By the way, do i need to mention about his success on The Kinks? I thought so, if i will mention bands like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones on this blog, you can shot me down. But, Ray Davies, as a solo artist needs good feed from all cool critics. I read Guardians' review, and Blogcritics' review where they know how to write reviews, and they know which bands or artists they should speak in praise of. Alright, this is a great record, one of his bests, well-written, guitar driven, exploring and glimmering. I don't even know how to say which song is good or bad. You need to listen the whole record, it completely gets your mind every new spin. I love his relax voice, yes i really love his works.

Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Sunday, October 21, 2007

The MM Review
Rating: 9/10
Yeah, it's Spoon, with wounded vocals of Britt Daniel, combining very sweet guitar hormonies, hailing from Austin, TX. Every song is quite adorable for a boring sunday, moreover the record can be your hero during a very monoton sunday. The following day, you know that you have to go to work, but why those bastards let you be on your own. Then, you have a better idea for the reason, it's time to listening rock music at heart. These are the things you can find in Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. Or, you can just see it as a great music. This depends to how much you want to get from music. The new record Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga got my atttention after downloading it three months later, that sounds quite interesting, i'm sure it's because of the band is growing on me. What are you waitin' for, go and buy the record.

Radiohead - In Rainbows Review

Sunday, October 14, 2007

The MM Review
Rating: 8.0

Without doubt, In Rainbows will include in many the best of 2007 lists, because it came in right time with a right revolution that we can download the whole record paying how much we want to pay. Thom Yorke's first solo record came last year, The Eraser. It was quite far away from being an apparent record. Thanks to other members Greenwoods, Ed O'Brien, Phil Selway, and our depressed electronic boy Tom Yorke, this has been almost flawless record for the upcoming winter and autumn. There are many key tracks, and acustic sweets in, In Rainbows, you want to think about rains, rainbows, clouds and cold. Yep, this ain't a guitar driven, upbeat rock record. There is one thing missing In Rainbows that it sounds too heavy many times. However, don't expect too much from a band who created records like The Bends and Ok Computer at past. Etheral music in front of Yorke's painfull vocal sounds adorable at times. Once you've discovered the hypnotic opener 15 step, the following noisier piece Bodysnatchers, theatrical tune All I Need, there is no way out you'll love this record. Despite its nothing's new concept, everything is okey, nothing is spotty, this is the best Radiohead since OK Computer.

MM picks: 15 Step, All I need, Jigsaw Falling into Place

You can download the tunes from The Official In Rainbows

She Wants Revenge - This is Forever

Wednesday, October 03, 2007

*MM review
Rating:8.5
Los Angeles based dance rock duo She Wants Revenge are self-confident to expand their fans in the name of the sophomore effort This is Forever where many of them fixture influences appear. Yeah this is the extacly modern harvest of gothic bands like Joy Division, Bauhaus and plus to these synth pop's popular kids Depeche Mode. This is Forever borrows from Joy Divison classic record Closer, and you even want to listen again Decades, Twenty Four Hours, Sound of Music. This fits with their music well when She Want Revenge add glommy Ian Curtis vocals to their sound. It's not by chance finding great tracks like first single True Romance, Replacement and Written In Blood in the record. Worth a listen and sometimes it's fullfilled with energy, dark and romantism.

Joni Mitchell's Shine

Sunday, September 30, 2007

Shine is the seventeenth studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell and was released on September 25, 2007 by Starbucks' Hear Music. Some says she's the single most important female singer-songwriter of the 20th Century, i say no one can be the only one. For me, every single artists come with their unique talents, and chosing a top between them isn't always true. It's not hard to think that Shine can't be like any previous classic Mitchell records. However great mellow tunes can be found on Shine, like amazing "If," or "Night Of The Iguana,", these are song for relaxing, lyrics are truly inspiring. That's the most beautiful side of her voice, it recalls peace back to my room.
