Best Albums of 90s Modern Rock
Tuesday, February 12, 2008
Do not mind anything that anyone tells you about modern rock and what is not modern rock. It just starts with late 1970s punk (some thinks INXS, The Cure, Morrissey, Depeche Mode, and Erasure as modern rock artists during the 1980s), and modern rock is all about to leave classic rock on your back... I'm not sure that these are all modern rock. Anyway, these albums are damn fucking great!
1. Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
2. Jane's Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual

3. Appleseed cast - End of the Ring Wars
4. Faith No More - Angel Dust
5. Bob Mould - WorkBook

The MM presents the best hits from 2007 that you can dance with!!!!

1. Rihanna - Umbrella (Feat. Jay-Z)
One of my reader commented like 'Why you support cheap r&b girls?', you'll be disappointed my reader, because this little cheap girl delivers my number one dance hit.

2. Nelly Furtado - Maneater
I love Nelly Furtado, yes i really love her! I don't have to give up listening some pop stars even if i'm in deep love with dozens of underground rock bands.

3. David Vendetta feat. Akram - Unidos Para La Musica
Meeting electronic with beautiful ethnic latin vocals, tasty!

4. Justice - Phantom Pt. II
If you ask me the best electronic record in 2007, i can say Justice's Cross is one of them.

5. Seal - The Right Life
The record ain't amazing like he says in his first single, "Amazing", you can find some good tunes in it, though.

6. Burial - Untrue
Maybe, you'll think it's not a dance song like you think, but it rocks.

7. Juvelen - Summer Spring

8. Love Is All - Felt Tip (Hot Chip Remix)

9. Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor

10. Chromatics - In The City

Best Songs of the Year 2007
Saturday, November 24, 2007
1. John Vanderslice - White Dove
Vanderslice kicks all those shitty indie rock sounds, and creates something terribly effective with his songs on Emerald City. Keep your speakers' volume on high, because no song will effect your brain like this, pure listening.

2. Of Montreal - Gronlandic Edit
I guess it would be nice to give my heart to a god \ But which one, which one do I choose? \ All the churches fill with losers, psycho or confused \ I just want to hold the divine in mind \ And forget all of the beauty's wasted. Confused lyrics and poppy sound draws a new direction to Of Montreal's music. It's been really great song, i want to dance to this everytime i hear.

3. Band Of Horses - No One's Gonna Love You
A delicious alternative country sound, an emotional vocal contrubuting, dreamy arrangements come from 2007's one of the best albums Cease To Begin.

4. Patrict Wolf - Augustine/ Magpie
We discovered entertaining side of indie rock with John Vanderslice, and we danced to Of Montreal's Gronlandic Edit. Now, we need to listen some young star which keeps our eyes wet. Of course this name should be Patrict Wolf with his Augustine and Magpie (feat. Marianne Faithfull) from The Magic Position album.

5. Fiery Furnaces - Cabaret Of The Seven Devils/ My Egyptian Grammar
A strange song that i wanted to put the list, this is Fiery Furnaces, interestingly odd and unfamiliar. You should play this song along with My Egyptian Grammar which is another song from thier latest record Widow City. Oh god, this is so great music. At the end this is wonderful music.

6. Jens Lekman - Sipping On The Sweet Nectar
His Night Falls Over Kortedala is so mellow record, and it's his best yet.

7. Blonde Redhead - Top Ranking
Blonde Redhead are always welcome to our best of list, they're hard-working and their every record is great. Top Ranking should make this list.
8. Chris Conelly - Son of Empty Sam
9. The National - Brainy
10. Panda Bear - Bros
11. Rihanna feat Jay-Z – Umbrella
This is not cheap pop music, i can give my word. On the other hand this is not influencial.
12. Battles - Leyendecker
Maybe, Mixing this great experimental rock song to a disco floor dance song would be awesome. Anyhow this is the standout Battles cut from their post-modern Mirrored record.
13. Animal Collective - Peacebone
14. Feist - My Moon My Man

15. M.I.A. – Jimmy
16. Arcade Fire – Ocean of Noise
17. LCD Soundsystem – Get Innocuous!
The heavily chorused voices that suggest backward-masking in the opener "Get Innocuous" and the captivating harmonics keyboardist Nancy Whang.

18. Amy Winehouse - Back To Black
19. The Shins - Sea Legs
20. Radiohead - Jigsaw Falling Into Place
Radiohead become every teenage's supernatural depressing rock band, In Rainbows doesn't offer something beautifully shocking like previous Ok Computer or The Bends. Still Jigsaw Falling Into Place calls your good and bad memories back, a strong tune.

Favorite songs for autumn
Thursday, September 27, 2007
1. Cocteau Twins - Musette And Drums
One of the most flawless Cocteau piece, actually you can say every Cocteau Twins song is flawless. This timeless band, this timeless vocals of Elizabeth and her ex-Husband Robin Guthrie's dark guitar, oh no this band is truly timeless.

2. Bob Mould - Wishing Well
As being member one of the most influential American band Husker Du, Bob Mould has also released couple of great solo records. This is from acoustic nature of Bob Mould's first solo album, Workbook. A perfect tune for autumns.
3. Elliott Smith - Alameda
Do not get me wrong, Elliott Smith can be listened on every season, but, particularly i love Alameda, its nature and its simple beauty. Elliott Smith is the main indie icon of 90s, that's why his every record sounds perfect, there is nothing crap.

4. Mojave 3 - Got My Sunshine
I promised myself not doing complains about why some great songs or records couldn't make any success, but i give my word, Mojave 3 is one of a kind band (of course after Slowdive). After listening this brooding love torch, you'll thank to me(i hope).
5. Inspiral Carpets - Move
This is again successful but underrated at the same time. You should check their Life album which was a great found for me at the first listening. Life is still precious record to me, and i share one of my fav. cut with you.
6. Nico - All That Is My Own
7. Brian Eno - Golden Hours

8. Lambchop - Life's little tragedy
9. Antony And The Johnsons - Fistful Of Love (with Lou Reed)
No doubt, Antony And The Johnsons is the best thing after Lou Reed, Soft Cell, Jeff Buckley and Bryan Ferry. Be careful with that, these are quite important names.
10. Final Fantasy - Many Lives - 49 MP
I'm ending up the list with an amazing live video of Musette And Drums, this performance by Cocteau Twins was recorded live on TV in the UK in late 1983. I hope you liked the new layout.

Part I
Popular Rock Hits From 90s
I won't give up listening to these songs even if everyone knows them. Why you have to be someone else? Why do you give up listening to songs that made commercial success? Does it make you special? I asked these questions to myself, and I only listen what i like. Everything is pop. Pop is everything.
1. R.E.M. - Losing My Religion
Much was made of the meaning of the title "Losing My Religion" among inquiring pop fans.
Was it an old Southern saying? Gibberish? Or an admission of something more personal by
singer and lyricist Michael Stipe? In the end, it didn't really matter, as R.E.M. took all the elements that made their previous efforts great and found themselves with a worldwide hit. The sound of gently plucked acoustic instruments, at once traditional and contemporary, and a strong sense of melody, made for the ultimate song from an already great band. Mike Mills recounted in an interview that in Israel the song was referred to as "O Life," referring to the first line of the song; in the U.S., the band scored its first Top Five hit. The album from which it was taken, Out of Time, eventually made it to number one; an accompanying video won all the top honor awards a video could that year. If R.E.M. hadn't yet charted on the radar for some folks, "Losing My Religion" ensured the band a place in pop history when it became the ubiquitous song during the summer of 1991. Amg Review
2. Radiohead - Paranoid Android
Paranoid Android absolutely makes Thom Yorke a better singer, but beauty of the song comes
from its alternative flowings, passages. Three section during the song; beginning, middle and
ending. With this song, you'll realize the best reason why you should listen to Radiohead. Because you don't need to do anything, just let it play!
3. Simply Red - Stars
Simply Red's records are maybe not my bag. The band released another great hits such as "Fairground", "If You Don't Know Me By Now". Stars was truly top of the band, sometimes simple songs are very hard to write. Stars takes simplicity and goes with the choruses which invites you to sing along.
4. Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares To You
Logging the highest level of chart performance for any single in 1990, Irish singer Sinéad
O'Connor's cover of the Prince composition "Nothing Compares 2 U" catapulted her from a
college-radio favorite into international stardom, to which she responded with passionate,
controversial political stands and increasingly erratic behavior.
5. Smashing Pumpkins - Today
6. Counting Crows - Mr. Jones
7. Nirvana - In Bloom
"In Bloom" was a cryptic attack on Nirvana's more clueless fans, embodied in a working-class Joe who "likes all our pretty songs/And he likes to sing along/And he likes to shoot his gun/But he don't know what it means."
8. The Cure - Friday, I'm In Love
9. Duran Duran - Ordinary World
10. Incubus - Stellar

Best Records in First Quarter of 2007
Saturday, March 31, 2007
You love music lists. Let's discuss the best and worst rock albums thus far.
According to me , music is one of the most
powerful passions in the world. I always make the lists to their passion degrees. Ouch! you confused, aren't you! But if a record can't make molecular changings on me, the record won't exist in my list.
1. The National - Boxer
2. The Field - From Here We Go Sublime
You're right! This record beats any record below, because of its original instrumental streaming. Speacially ( I've obsessions) Lionel Richie cut end of "A Paw In My Face" is just amazing. Every minor detail of the record deserves admiration.
mp3: Field - A Paw In My Face
3. Bill Callahan - Woke On A Whaleheart
Excellent! And also perfect combination of new Bill Callahan (a.k.a (Smog)) features acustics, country, plentiful songwriting !
4. Low - Drums And Guns
5. Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
6. Menomena - Friend And Foe
7. Patrick Wolf - Magic Position
8. Of Montreal - Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?
9. Andrew Bird - Armchair Apocrypha
Personally i like "Oh! The Grandeur" more than this, however Andrew Bird is good all the way.
10. The Papercuts - Can't Go Back
Thus far, Worst records on first quarter of the year goes to:
1. The Stooges - Weirdness
Self Parody!
2. Kaiser Chiefs - Yours Truly, Angry Mob
The Worst cover, the worst single... How the guys say only 'Ruby ruby ruby ruby!'.
3. Fountains Of Wayne - Traffic and Weather
Oh we belong together, like traffic and weather, like traffic and weather...!
4. Good Charlotte - Good Morning Revival
A brief from The guardian "A fourth album of stunning fatuousness."
5. Mika - Life In Cartoon Motion
6. Klaxons - Myths Of The Near Future
mp3: Golden Skans
7. LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
For being arty, i never call a shit as masterpiece. Here is only good song
in Sound of Silver.
mp3: Get Innocuous
8. The Good, The Bad & The Queen
mp3: Kingdom of Doom
9. Jennifer Lopez - Como Ama Una Mujer
How did J.Lo make this list?
10. Rakes - Ten New Messages

10 Greatest British Album Ever
Saturday, March 17, 2007
Who says that word, greatest? Like before i said, i don't believe in the word, it's so relative term. But you know that kids are askin' for a standout list of remarkable British records. Let's say these are the records which you can sleep with, you can fall in love with, change a life by.

1.Nick Drake - Bryter Layter
It's like there is a place for everyone on this record. Melancholy, beauty, and the most importantly it doesn't has any genre directed recording style. Original with what it has got. Prodigious songwriting, perfect music, and really it's still like a fresh record. That's the music, that's the life. I've never feel gloomy of it, on the contrary it helps you to make your day peaceful. You see, it changes a life.Bulut
mp3: Nick Drake - Hazey Jane II
2.Pulp - Different Class
Stories between social classes has always been interesting in novels, movies, and music. Britain's Pulp not only carries its passionate music one step forward, it also brings to scene one of the most unique harmonies. Pulp’s finest hour was like a Mike Leigh film starring the Carry On cast, pitting Jarvis Cocker’s sarcasm against spry new wave synth-pop. It kicks Pulp's previously released His N' Her and becomes a true value. Whenever you listen it, you discover it again.Bulut
mp3: Pulp - I spy
3.The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses
They invented a new material in music and this material still is too expensive to reach.
The Stone Roses created the rule and a gift for next generations.
mp3: The Stone Roses - I Wanna Be Adored
4.Wire - Pink Flag
Perhaps the most original debut album to come out of the first wave of British punk. Very few of the songs followed traditional verse/chorus structures -- if one or two riffs sufficed, no more were added; if a musical hook or lyric didn't need to be repeated, Wire immediately stopped playing, accounting for the album's brevity. Pink Flag's enduring influence pops up in hardcore, post-punk, alternative rock, and even Britpop, and it still remains a fresh, invigorating listen today: a fascinating, highly inventive rethinking of punk rock and its freedom to make up your own rules.
5.The Smiths - The Queen Is Dead
The Smiths didn’t make bad records, so the fact their 1986 album is rated as their defining moment already places it in rarefied air. 'The Queen Is Dead’ is as capable of soundtracking lives
now as it was the day it was released.
6.Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure
7.Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
8.Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque
9. Manic Street Preachers - The Holy Bible
10. The Jesus And Mary Chain - Psychocandy

Alternative Five British Stuff:
1. Brian Eno - Here Come the Warm Jets
2. The Clash - London Calling
3. The Art of Noise - (Who's Afraid Of?) The Art Of Noise!
4. Pj Harvey - Dry
5. Primal Scream - Screamadelica
College Student's Choices:
1. Radiohead - The Bends
2. The Verve - ANorthern Soul
3. Muse - Absolution
4. Coldplay - Parachutes
5. Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand
