New York Dolls - Cause I Sez So (2009)

Saturday, May 02, 2009

The New York Dolls’ second album since their reactivation five years ago is the return of Todd Rundgren as producer. Rundgren was behind the boards for their paradigm-shifting New York Dolls ’73 debut, and the group — whose sole still-breathing members from that first run are singer David Johansen and guitarist Sylvain Sylvain — were wise to offer him a rematch. Unlike 2006’s uneven One Day It Will Please Us To Remember Even This, ’Cause I Sez So is not faux retro, and neither does it overreach in order to speak to 2009. It’s just solid, classic Dolls, with all the swagger, muscle, righteous kitsch, and ballsy defiance you expect, plus some new twists.

Passion Pit- New Single

Wednesday, April 29, 2009

The first single from Passion Pit, 'Sleepyhead' was hard to digest. Eventually it won me over, but not before some concerted effort to understand its complexity. I fell in love with this new single in the first 5 seconds. This a beautiful song, and suddenly I find myself anticipating Passion Pit's LP release instead of eyeing it as an alien substance.

'Manners' is out via Frenchkiss Records on May 26th.

Tracklist: 1. Make Light, 2. Little Secrets, 3. Moth's Wings, 4. The Reeling, 5. Eyes As Candles, 6. Swimming In The Flood, 7. Folds In Your Hands, 8. To Kingdom Come, 9. Sleepyhead, 10. Let Your Love Grow Tall, 11. Seaweed Song

Manic Street Preachers - Jackie Collins Existential Question Time

The Manics releases their first single from the newest record Journal For Plague Lovers. The Band returns to their roots, providing great rock and roll music.

I read that most of Zines say good things about the new record. Of Course, it's not the best album of them. If you say like this, i can say that you have never listened to their The Holy Bible, Everything Must Go. After the Umbrella cover, or after Send Away the Tigers, Jackie Collins Existential Question Time is the best thing they have done. 7/10

Uncut - "A brave compelling record stands shoulder to shoulder with The Manics best" ****

John Foxx & Robin Guthrie - Mirrorball

The long-awaited collaboration album between John Foxx and Robin Guthrie, entitled Mirrorball will be released through Metamatic Records (distributed by Universal) on Monday the 4th of May, 2009.

Layers of echoes and reverberations are explored on Mirrorball so that Guthrie's unique guitar work merges with Foxx's abstract, often improvised vocals. I have listened Mirrorball, the record is something like heaven music.
