Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Beware

Our favorite folk singer Bonnie "Prince" Billy ready to release another big album of him "Beware".

Some blogs seem to like the upcoming Bonnie Prince, "Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy will release his “biggest and most ambitious album,” Beware on March 16th via Domino Records." Muzzle of Bees.

There are amazing moments on the album like songs "My Life's Work", “I Am Goodbye" and "I Don't Belong To Anyone". It's been almost another "I See Darkness". The closing track proves that Bonnie "Prince" Billy will make satisfied music fans once again.

Ok, here it comes the opener track, i will remove this later. you can also watch some of him music videos at Dragcity.

February Playlist Sample

I thought I’d share part of my current playlist. There’s new and old here, but they’re all favorites.

Anavan- BOOM (This is my current favorite song. It’s crazy danceable. It’s off Anavan’s new album ‘Cover Story’)

The Books- Cello Song (a new favorite from the excellent compilation ‘Dark Was The Night’, a 2-disc benefit album featuring a real who’s-who list of indie bands. If you want it, buy it and support AIDs prevention. Get more info and sample some songs here at Dark Was The Night’s MySpace page.)

Setting Sun- How Long (I just got Setting Sun’s 2008 album ‘Children of the Wild’, and I’m really enjoying it. It’s kind of a strange album, with folk blending into synthesizers at times, and very beat oriented. ‘Overjoyed’ has to be my favorite song, but this one is good too.)

Willowfair- Shadow (So quiet, so beautiful. More of Willowfair’s work can be downloaded free at

Royksopp- Happy Up Here (Brand new single from Royksopp. Really catchy, incredibly fun. Listen here: Happy Up Here. *Update- I found the official video. The sound is so much better*

Great Northern- The Middle (Great Northern’s 2007 album ‘Trading Twilight for Daylight’ is amazing.)

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - It's Blitz!

Punkkkk! YYY returns with both new single and album. It's Blitz is the third studio album of New York based punk rock band. Believe me, Yeah Yeah Yeah sounds quite crazy. First single is named "Zero" reminds their songs from "Fever to Tell" album. That album has a lot of great song, including their the oddest song "Date with the Night". It's Blitz! combines dance, rock and punk, and it sounds great.

Cabaret Voltaire - Kora! Kora! Kora! (2009)

The seminal, electronic, art-rock experience from Sheffield known as Cabaret Voltaire is poised to inflict audio-visual carnage across designated areas of the world and its solar system once again.

Drownned In Sound shares an article
It’s not all that often that a remix album is significantly more important than the album that spawned it but given that Kora are an inoffensive Kiwi rock/reggae band and Cabaret Voltaire were, along with Throbbing Gristle, pioneers of the early electronic dance sound that came to be known as Industrial, Kora! Kora! Kora! more than qualifies.

Junior Boys - Begone Dull Care 2009

Jeremy Greenspan and Matthew Didemu this time release another strong record that makes your night time danceable. Almost a year after the release So This Is Goodbye, The Canadian duo comes with the third studio album Begone Dull Care. The album is named for Begone Dull Care, a short film by Academy Award-winning National Film Board animator Norman McLaren which was set to the music of Oscar Peterson.

Some may call their style is mostly suitable to late night music, however i love listening this record every time period of day. It's so easy listen, smooth and it makes you remember 80s great synth pop moments.

"The Camel's Back"- Psapp (2009)

Psapp is a little bit big band, a little bit singer/songwriter, a little bit rock and pop and orchestra and folk and electronic and bawdy brass and clicks and pots and pans and monsters…. and a lot of really fun sampling of awesome sounds. Their experimental songs, with a beats built up from crazy sounds of all kinds, are almost child-like but are so sophisticated at the same time, and that makes them really listenable. These songs draw you in, lift you up into the clattering, warbling, dream-like atmosphere of music that is Psapp’s wild imagination, and they don’t let you go until the album ends and you drift back down to the real world. I love this band and it was so exciting to be surprised by an entirely new release!

Listen to the full album here.

You should check out their 2006 album ‘The Only Thing I Ever Wanted’ as well, because it’s a great album too, with the songs ‘Hi’ and ‘Tricycle’ as stand-out tracks. This new album shows incredible growth while holding onto the clever brilliance that exemplifies this band. The new songs are even more accessible and will hopefully reach a really wide audience. You have to hear them to appreciate the full depth of this oddball but truly noteworthy album. It’s really, really worth it to listen to the whole album!

Ah! So exciting! I love this album!!! 10/10

Bruce Springsteen- "Working On A Dream" (2009)

If you’re a fan of Bruce Springsteen or his style of Americana rock, I think you’ll enjoy this album. I felt ambivalent towards it overall. It’s hard for me to make a judgment on whether Springsteen’s new album is an improvement, or whether his style is growing or not. I haven’t listened to his entire back discography with a critical ear. Naturally I’ve heard all of his greatest hits, and I can appreciate that he’s a legendary American musician, and it remains to be seen whether this album has spawned more lasting hits for him.

That being said…. I was impressed by the bonus single ‘The Wrestler’, which was not nominated for an Oscar but did win a Golden Globe. It’s a poignant back-alley epic that could be the anthem of anyone who has fallen on hard times. The lyrics are hard-wrought, homespun, blunt pieces of an American folktale. I also enjoyed the folksy ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’, but most of the other songs didn’t stand out to me. ‘Lucky Day’ was catchy and typical of the album’s upbeat, hopeful tone. The title track ‘Working On A Dream’, though actually one of the least memorable songs, spoke straight to Joe Everyday, and indeed most of the album was focused with laser precision on the everyday, working man/woman. In that way the songs were very accessible and unpretentious, but bordering on bland at times. I expect to hear some of them in car commercials.

‘Outlaw Pete’, the opening track, was a bit of a speed-bump to start the tracklist with. The old-timey-style outlaw ballad was not dark or captivating enough to grab my attention, and it was a clunky way to get the album going at eight minutes long. It would have made a better closer. One song stood out to me in a very bad way, and that was ‘Queen of the Supermarket’, which is being hailed by many as the worst Springsteen song ever written. I understand the sentiment behind it, being the story of an everyday crush on the woman at the check-out, but the lyrics made me laugh and I really don’t think that was what he was going for. You really have to hear it, and you can make your own judgment if you do, so I’ll bite my tongue and hold back any mockery I’m tempted to fall into.

“Working On A Dream” was a good effort on Springsteen’s part, with heartfelt if not always consistently strong lyrics, samples of all types of down-home American music styles, great back-up instrumentation from the E Street band. I’m sure it will resonate with his audience and fans across the world. I wasn’t all that entranced by it, but then again I’m not a big fan of his style. The album came off as good but average, but for a couple of more shining examples. I give it a 7/10.

I adore her voice, style, everything. She's an amazing star and her career is very interesting including lots of different music style. Cool is one of her best slow rock songs. Stardust!

The Posies - Dream All Day: The Best Of The Posies
The Posies were one of the most popular power pop bands of the '90s and thare are great alternative rock songs in the album that you should have in your archive. You'll also find a "I Am The Cosmos" (Chris Bell) cover in the best of collection.

Bloc Party One Month Off

The new video for the third single from 'Intimacy'. Out on the 26th of January on Wichita Recordings. You can watch beautiful video on Myspace.

One Month Off is of the most upbeat Bloc Party songs. I have lots of fun with the lyrics and fast rhythm. In the One Month Off EP, there are four remix verison in addition. The ending part of the original version sounds quite weird!

November Was White, December Was Grey by Say Hi

Say Hi ( a.k.a. Say hi to your mom) will release a new album titled as Oohs & Aahs. And it is scheduled for release on March 3, 2009. The Whole record was written by frontman Eric Elbogen who looks quite amazing with the suit below.

New single, "November Was White, December Was Grey" is a reason to get excited for the new album. I loved this slow song, indie indie and more indie!

Say Hi - November Was White, December Was Grey

The Appleseed Cast - Sagarmatha

The Appleseed Cast is Christopher Crisci and Aaron Pillar with Nate Whitman and John Momberg.

Chris Crisci had this to say; "Well, the idea is still there, although it has morphed into a mostly instrumental full length. There's songs that have 45 seconds of vocals and 6 minutes of instrumental. There's songs that are entirely instrumental, and there's one song with complete vocals that clocks in at about 2:30."

I'm big fan of The Appleseed Cast, their "The End of The Ring Wars" album is one of the best indie rock albums in 90s. You should remember the cover art on left, if you follow this blog since years. I've used the cover art for the logo of this site. Some of you asked the band's name. However, they're very underrated like every miracle music band. After that, they come with their great, noisy album "Sagarmatha". Oh my God, this band never loses its soul, another great album.

Scarlett Johansson - Last Goodbye (cover Jeff Buckley)

Scarlett Johansson continues to expand her cover songs catalogue following Anywhere I Lay My Head Tom Waits covers and Live Session. This time heer victim is Jeff Buckley. You can hear the cover mention all around , Guardian, Prefix, Pitchfork all fucking indie dudes posted about the cover. Do they like Scarlett like i do? Or they just need some visitors, who knows?

Not a diehard Buckley fan myself, i like some popular songs by him. Since Scarlett has similar taste in music with me, i love her. This song gives me all blues! There are also another Tom Waits Tribute coming on the way. Honey, you're a gloomy bitch but i love you anyway.

Scarlett Johansson - Last Goodbye

"We Started Nothing"- The Ting Tings

This was a really entertaining album to listen to. It was a lot of fun to have playing as I worked, and it’s overall energy kept me feeling energized too. There were a lot of high points in the album, like the oft played ‘Shut Up and Let Me Go’ and ‘That’s Not My Name’, with heavy beats and an undeniable catchy factor (which is probably why the former ended up in a coveted iPod commercial). The only low point was ‘Impacilla Carpisung’ which is a mystery to me. It doesn’t fit in with the other songs. It’s too quiet, it’s dull and sticky sounding, and comes off as filler.

The Tings Tings may be a new ‘It’ band with, perhaps, more hype than they can live up to, but there’s substance to them. They’ve created an album to please the masses and they beat out uncluttered entertainment. It’s creative enough to be clever, angry enough to be cool, and original enough to grab some attention. It’s fun, it’s rhythmic, it’s loud, it’s catchy, and it’s very Now. It’s not going to change the face of music. But it will get stuck in your head.
