Clinic - Funf

Saturday, May 26, 2007

Clinic are to release "Funf" next month a rarities album, b-sides from the band's first ten years together. The album includes twelve cool-kinda tracks, some of them sounds better than many songs on their studio record. That the craziest vocal, and their sound which reminds you a radio quality listen is actually gripping, they're really weird. I liked it a lot more than previous record, Visitations. Magic Boots from the same album reminded me New York punk bands! By the way, nice vocals!

The Durutti Column - Sporadic Three

Friday, May 25, 2007

Rating: 8.5/10
Review:
Durutti Column is one of the special names for me, on his music it's not hard to feel warm winds on your face. This collection contains exclusive tracks, outtakes, versions, and home demos. Reilly's off cuts contain more ideas than most of us have over the course of a lifetime. Like dreamy vocals from Cranes to Brian Wilson, dreamy guitars from Brian Eno to Phil Manzanera, Vini Reilly is one of the most alternative guitarists that i've ever heard. Isn't it so beautiful to hear all passions, colors, pain from pastoral descriptions on his guitar? Reilly really makes it strong, a very interesting collection that you should taste.

Fairport Convention - Liege & Leaf

Classics
This is the last album from Fairport before their reshuffle in personnel and it seems to be a showcase for Sandy Denny, whose voice dominates every number. As a group they seem to have come a long way backwards since their first album. The exciting electric sound of those days has been replaced with the most traditional of traditional folk, which doesn’t make for too much animation– they’ve over-simplified. It’s an essential recording. The 2002 CD reissue adds a previously unreleased version of "Sir Patrick Spens" with Sandy Denny on lead vocals.

The Editors New Record

Wednesday, May 23, 2007

An end has a start, it sounds interesting when you read on the art work. So this is Coldplay's faster version with a lot more Ian McCulloch feeling on it? Or The Killers with a deep voice? I've listened a leaked version of "An End Has A Start"' and i think this is dull indie rock.

What i dislike most is every song recalls each other and you can hear sound of catchy, cooly, moody music for college guys, and for others, i'm not sure if there are interesting songs to dig in the new record. I already tired of listening Ian Curtis copying on every Editors song, but musically this is ever and never close to Joy Divison. There are two or three comely works such as Bones, Spiders and When Anger Shows. But it can't cover that college guy feeling 'look i just found a new band! and it's my favorite now'. The desicion is yours but it was a cold experience for me.

The Verve - Drugs Don't Work

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

I still love listening The Verve which was definitely one of the best british bands in the 90s. Every The Verve song reminds sense of drama, love and dreams. What i liked most is that you can listen to their songs when it's your bloody romantic mood. "Urban Hymns" (1999) is third studio record of the band, and following that they disbanded in1999. I love this song from the album even if lyrics aren't for me. Richard Ashcroft had released three solo record up to date, and if you ask me, his solo records are easy to forget. Now let your ears join to lush acustic guitars!

Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Relax

There's just something so cheerfully and pointedly simplistic about "Relax" that it's next to impossible not to love.

Frankie seem to wallow and finally get swallowed up by their own silly schoolboy beliefs that innuendoes and words like “suck” and “come” are going to titillate what they see as our equally immature sense of good clean dirty fun. I suggest they look to either Ian Dury for honestly humorous vulgarity or Divine for no holds barred up front filth and stop sniggering like pimply adolescents who’ve just caught a glimpse of their neighbour’s knickers. written by Helen Fitzgerald

New Rock Singles (May 21)

Monday, May 21, 2007

1. mp3: Smashing Pumpkins - Tarantula
I haven't had any chance to listen Zeitgeist yet, but i know that Billy Corgan doesn't disappoint us. "Tarantula" is a shooting beggining for returning the new Smashing Pumkins lineup.
You can also listen non-radio rip version from Spinner.

2. Spoon - The Ghost of You Lingers (Youtube Video)
On "GaGaGaGa" none of the songs sound like The Ghost Of You Lingers, so this makes it their major hit. I think it's a creative video, but it's hard to find something memorable on it, yeah just some video effects and it reminds me visualization effect on winamp player. New Spoon sounds good, there are many likeable songs, but it's not what i want, though. For example
mp3: Spoon - Rhthm & Soul gives a good reason to think about of an upcoming melodic alternative pop record. It just flows, i like it.

3. Amp Fiddler feat Corinne Bailey Rae - If I Don't (Youtube Video)
I'm not a big fan of Corinne Bailey Rae, but, if a song is good, i just say it. This is attractive song features soul, r&b in the formula.

4. The Chemical Brothers - Do It Again (Youtube Video)
5. Dears – You & I Are A Gang Of Losers
6. Queens of the Stone Age - Sick Sick Sick (Youtube Video)
7. Gym Class Heroes - Cupid's Chokehold
8. Jesse Malin – Broken Radio
9. The Pigeon Detectives - I'm Not Sorry
10. Chris Cornell – Arms Around Your Love (Youtube Video)
Chris Cornell's Carry On is nothing better than previous Audioslave which was a terrible
record for me, and that time i noticed that this band no longer lives. For now, he's on his
own, however nothing changes again. Music for teenage girls. Crap!

Nick Lowe - At My Age

Sunday, May 20, 2007

Review:
The British icon Nick Lowe returns with his new plush record, his first album in nearly six years. And again At My Age's bringing back the tradition of three-minute pop singles, they sound as Lowe, of course, his skill on music follows a melodic country-rock, adult pop record.

Its amazing atmosphere that goes perfectly on rainy days is the best side of "At My Age". People Change, Hope For Us All, The Other Side Of The Coin are amazing new songs of him, these are mellow, charming, moreover they show his experienced producing where you can remember his contribution on recordings for The Damned, Elvis Costello, and The Pretenders. Lowe has recorded more solo albums in his own very individual style to critical acclaim, and this is again what he is.
You can preorder his album at Yep Rock Records.
