Marc Almond - Stardom Road

Saturday, May 12, 2007

This saturday we all become romantic because of an upcoming record, i've just finished listening to "Stardom Road" by English artist Marc Almond. Most of you know his major effort on 80's disbanded Soft Cell with their amazing album Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret (Check out 80s section). This new album featuring Antony and the Johnsons, Jools Holland, Sara Cracknel of St. Ettiene and a 50 piece Orchestra, and also it's a favorite cover songs collection. Even if it sounds very cinematic, pastoral and susceptible sometimes, "Stardom Road" is a good cover collection. And here comes an amazing jazzy duet from Antony and Marc Almond. The song has been better than his collaboration with Bjork for Antony Hegarty.

The Clientele - God Save The Clientele

Friday, May 11, 2007

Rating: 7.9/10
Modern Music Review
Summertime dreams are nearly to come true and warm weather begin to show its effect on music as always. Listening happy, sunny, songs make your day on a hot summmer day. A cold drink on your hand, and you only want having a good time like everybody else. There is an expression that we used to say in Turkish, every thing is in this world for people. And yes, we all deserve a good, high quality life, a good record to spend our time with.

Listening soft albums is always a good choice on summertime. You push to play button, take your seat and read your favorite magazine, looking to pictures to see something interesting. And on your backround music, suddenly a hit song starts to play from the same album . You say "oh it's great" to yourself. On "God Save The Clientele" not only he has a velvet voice, their arrangements are also romantic and melodic. The Clientele remind me last years' great records, for example Sleepy Jackson's, and one of my favorite summer record Puzzle Like You by Mojave 3. Their pure power pop sound roots from bands like Go-Betweens, Big Star, The Beatles, they can also be compared with Galaxie 500, Luke Haines, Mojave 3 and Felt and their labelmates Lambchop. But at the top of their musical influence, one name should be enough, dreamy and arcane treasure Gearge Harrison. While i fly with my parachute, i want "Bookshop Casanova" as my background music. It's the most energetic song on the new Clientele.

It's usually a lazy record. If you're looking for slow, dreamy music, grab "God Save The Clientele". These harmonies want to say something about love, and truly, god save the Clientele for better records in future!
MM picks: The Dance Of The Hours, Bookshop Casanova, The Queen Of Seville, Carnival On 7th Street

Manic Street Preachers Live

I hope you liked new Send Away The Tigers, and i was listening to The Great Western again, it reminded me all those beautiful songs. I decided to post some live songs of them. Especially "Everything Will Be" is worth a listen!

mp3: The Manics - Everything Will Be (Glastonbury 29/07/03)
"Everything Will Be", which the band previewed at the Glastonbury Festival 2003, appeared as a B-side to the single "The Love of Richard Nixon".
mp3: The Manics - Tsunami (2002 Hultsfredsfestivalen)
mp3: The Manics - Ocean Spray
And my final live The Manics song is a great great great live version of their major hit.

Live performances on Youtube:
Kevin Carter (Live at Glastonbury '99)
Faster (Glastonbury '94)
A comment on Faster video: 1 of the best British bands of all time and 1 of the best guitarists too. This performance of Faster is hard to beat.

Pixies - Bossanova

Thursday, May 10, 2007

This is delicious and whimsical music. They said "Bossanova" as the weakest Pixies when it was released. It was definitely because of Doolittle's shocking effect on them. Or it was Kim Deal's the breeders which got more attention than Bossanova got. As a distinctive record, Bossanova is one of the best albums in early 90s. And it's still a great album, it never gets old and it knows how to steal your heart. Francis (Frank Black) has said Bossanova is his favorite. Velouria, underlining their ability to write timeless singles that filled the head and sent toes tapping incessantly out of time. It's a fitting and a perfect example of 90's alternative rock music.

New Marilyn Manson

I feel as if there's more like three albums' worth of material, [because] I don't want to cram a long record into a place that doesn't have the attention span for that. . . I'd like to return to the old-fashioned records that had eight or nine songs [that] were all very important. Not to say that I made records that had filler material. They were all based around a central idea, and the central idea in this one is my pain and its ability to be unashamed to repeat itself.—Marilyn Manson, MTV News

After his several heavy sounded records, we see that Marilyn Manson wants a change on his music. This change and regeneration again becomes around rock music. On "Eat Me, Drink Me", he's more melodic now and his compositions include a sound closer to modern rock or alternative rock. Sure, there are again heavy rock moments, guitar solos, but it's generally poppy and easy to get. Not "Eat Me, Drink Me" is entirely perfect. However, if there is a truth about his new style, it's summarized on "Evidence". Absolutely catchy!

New Interpol

Wednesday, May 09, 2007

With their ceaseless guitar sound, with their vocalist, Interpol always remind me post-punk era, most probably it's closer to Ian Curtis, Joy Division era. They also remind me something near to explode, like some stuck weather in a small place, their sound explodes at the end of every song. That's why they're a unique band so far. "Turn on the Bright Lights" was a brilliant record, they perfectly did everything that a new band could do on a debut.

"We had keyboards on from the start which we've never done before. It's like a fifth member. There's a lot more texture, and interesting sounds, there's definitely progression and growth."
Now new album "Our Love To Admire" will be released on July 10, 2007. I've not listened to the new album yet. But i've heard this nice new single that again sounds like previous Interpol works, maybe this one is little anger than the others with heavy and stressful sound. Like on the art work, it's nature of the world. Eat to survive!

Are We Nearly There Yet? is the tenth album by indie legends Television Personalities. It was released in the United Kingdom on February 20, 2007. The album features brand new tracks along with covers of Bruce Springsteen and The Killers. And We liked the cover of "Mr Brightside", there are many other great cuts in the album indeed. So what we should to do is to listen this nice record.

The Afghan Whigs - Unbreakable: A Retrospective

Sunday, May 06, 2007

This is their first ever compilation and is an extraordinary portrait of one of American rock's most distinctive bands. New two songs "I'm a Soldier" and "Magazine", recorded when singer/guitarist Greg Dulli, bassist John Curley, guitarist Rick McCollum, and drummer Michael Horrigan reunited last fall. Are these clouds look so great or my eyes are blinded by this new song? I'm a Soldier , which is a new Afghan Whigs cut, is another powerful rock song by them, blowing all emotions and echoing on the background. It reminded me "Something Hot" that is other hot Afghan Whigs good. This is charming at every moment!
