Edwyn Collins

New bands and albums held off for one day, this post devoted to Edwyn. Best known for his tenure fronting the Scottish pop revivalists Orange Juice as well as his international solo hit "A Girl Like You,". When he was 16, he sold his stamp collection to buy a cheap Burns guitar and an amp. Having taught himself to play.

It's now almost two year since Edwyn left hospital following his stroke in February 2005. Since then he has been working tirelessly to recover as much of his former powers as possible.

I love to listen your records, your every song. Please drop us another new record, know that we always here for you to hear another amazing record.

This will continue...I'll protect the amazing artists, but as you know i can't do it by myself. Actually real power in music is the audience. Music can't exist if there is nobody listening to it. Edwyn Collins is a genius. Not only great mellow voice he has, he also has three amazing solo record "Doctor Syntax" (2002), " Gorgeous George" (1994) ,"Hope And Despair" (1989). Like before i said, we can't describe the music, we can only feel it. Edwyn's myspace page by his son.

You only kick me when I'm down
When I get up you come around
You come around, you say I'm great
You're only twenty years too late

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah! - Some Loud Thunder

Rating: 8.5/10
Modern Music Review
Indie Rock
Today, we'll clap our hands say yeah, because a really really very successful indie rock story lies there. They worked and worked , and it's a influence foundation for other unsigned new bands. They promoted their music themselves before anything else, and deserved good words by anyone who loves to listen music. Self-released, self-promoted, and self-distributed debut album was quite stunning because it was similar to any kind of rock music, at the same it was some kind of quirky record, drawing extraordinary noise waves onto playful irreverent singing style.

They come another Clap Your Hands style record previously named as "Some Loud Thunder". They are well-known band via internet, blogging, but it's not a stamp for their music, of course they are loved by people because of their cool musical success. Again stone-like pieces are in stock, quite lovely dynamic cuts exist in "Some Loud Thunder". I tried to put first record and recent record to different corners, and what i saw is two different ambition, two different melody cube.

"Some Loud Thunder" is more ironic than debut record, and also cuts like "Satan Said Dance", "Yankee Go Home" are new naughty toys for indie kids. As a favorite of mine the most twisted song "Love Song No. 7" is the modest proof that these guys are strong-minded to keep this brilliant career. On the other hand "Some Loud Thunder" isn't powerful like a vital record, it has its own kindness. Its character and songwriting style can't depict a masterpiece's or a must have record. Anyway it's absolutely one step forward as against debut CYHSY. Release date: 30 Jan

Strong wish is the half way of successful, passion is the bullet of ability and Clap Your Hands Say
Yeah! shows the statements clearly. By the way the cover is weak...
MM picks: Love Song No. 7, Goodbye To The Mother And The Cove, Yankee Go Home

Menomena - Friend And Foe

Rating: 9.1/10
Modern Music Review
Experimental Rock
A year after the variety of "Under an Hour" including piano, viola, baglama (a baby bouzouki), toy piano, organ and guitar conjure a watery world of misty fogs, cascading waterfalls , comes a much more experimental soundscapes from Portland formed trio Menomena.

They have a strange band name which has no specific meaning, but obviously the name matches their music. One thing that i discovered in Menomena's music is if you want to listen their music, you'll want to listen whole album. Single songs don't suffice to get me into musical love. They're playing guitars carefully, percussions and other instruments merge weird noises, and mosty not in order. Excellent song order, queer vocals, whistles, all of these depict Menomena's music as an incoming powerful weapon, but in test period now.

'This is definitely delightful album' you want to tell, moreover with happiness of discovery
another new band, you can't control yourself, find yourself dancing one way to other way. Gentle
bells, piano joined nice experimental rock -- experimental and dance music at the same time -- think of its nutty effect on you!

I can't tell you how much strong song named "The Pelican" in the album, and nobody could tell it. There is only one way to get it, listening! If you ask me 'how is the song?', i'll look at your face
like an empty bottle. Maybe it's the best way to describe it. I haven't came across this kind of weird combination of saxophone and percussions before.(Weird)

YEAH! I'm absolutely happy while counting my steps on a long road, and "Friend And Foe" echoes in the ears. What are you waiting for? Release date: 23 Jan Tuesday
MM picks: Boyskouts Sweetboyskouts, The Pelican, Weird, Evil Bee

Syd Barett

I was reading Mojo's 2006 September release, and the cover was..., Syd Barett. Death is one of the most factual condition for people. But life is one of the most colorful motion, that's for sure. In music which artist was the most colorful and psychedelic one, sweeping your time with his color color colorful guitars, cheerful lyrics which needs to be discovered??? Again, answer is Syd Barett.

Elton John: 'Obviously , Syd's death is very very sad. To me he was rock's first true casualty. Because of that he'll be one of those people like Nick Drake and Marc Bolan whose legend will live on forever.'

Paul Weller: 'He shone so bright for such a short space of time, everyone's vision of him is still trapped in that time, we only think of Syd as he was on the sleeve of the first album. All i know is that he's very important to me.'

Robyn Hitchcock: 'I think there was a power struggle between Syd and Roger - I don't mean Roger Waters, I mean Roger Barett, and that Roger Barett won. By all accounts, he carried on doing studies of watercolours, and painting. he was this hybrid of a small child going around in shorts and a serious old man. Meanwhile, everyone wanted syd: 'We want Syd, where is he?' Imagine somebody that disturbed and sensitive with all these ghouls on his doorstep. It's not pretty.'

Life goes on, but that doesn't mean you should forget good things coming from the past. So i love to protect influential artists while keeping new influential artists on this blog.

Don't forget the songs that saved your life

I love to mix my playlist from old albums, new albums, classic artists. You should know how to put them in right order, know what's going to touch your heart, and you should know which song is going to cheer you up. That's very big deal to know how to feel music. You can create a miracle with the playlist even if music genres aren't same. If you similar with the songs;
Jam - Start! --> Beatles - Taxman
You know that the guitar chords are very resembling, Beatles stole from Jam! That's ridiculous. So who's the robber?

I believe that every album brings different or alternative point of view in your life, so it's the best thing to listen whole albums not single songs. It'll also help to distinguish what is original what is not. For instance Radiohead's "Creep" recalls Hollies' The Air That I Breathe entirely. By the way, we should consider that it's very hard to create something very original in these day. Artists and Bands try to produce new styles by blending all the past cultures. Nonetheless, they aren't able to impress listener like in 70s, 90s. Especially many listeners still believe in 80s, which had brought many successful music story. I don't know what the new year brings, but, here is some skilled discovery from my playlist.

Public Image Ltd - "God" recalls Talking Heads' - "Phyco Killer"
The Manics - "Roses in the hospital" is all same with David Bowie - "Sound and Vision"
R.E.M. - "One i love" borrowing as much from Neil Young - "Hey Hey My My"

We'll continue to listen good ones, to share with each other, to support music. Be careful! i said
'We'. If you love something deep in your heart, that love never ends, it only bleeds at times. And If you ask me, listening music is art.

And finally, My Bloody Valentine are set to make another album, according to leader Kevin Shields. The band's last LP was 1991's 'Loveless', while Shields' also contributed new tracks to the Sofia Coppola-directed 'Lost In Translation' soundtrack in 2004. Kevin's responses to Magnet Magazine really promising, i couldn't believe this at first time. Read whole story at NME
That's why we want Kevin Shields back!
