The Cranberries - Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?

Saturday, January 06, 2007

MM classics
I haven't came across someone who doesn't like Cranberries' music. Forget about their famous career and suppose that this is first release, they're a brand new band. Ah, how pure musical travel it is, how perfect listening a Elegant female voice Dolores O'Riordan has. And yes it's not posible to release such an album again. Still, as if it's a brand new record. And some truth of life lies in Berries' lyrics -- Oh my life is changing everyday Every possible way -- The life changing melody of Cranberries is here, it's in this album. It's "Sunday", you can feel violin's cry in your body, moreover bass guitars call something from past memories.

As a music lover, i believe that masterpieces are created only for people to adorn the life, the world. Yes it's for us to take what we want to take. Take beauty, take simplicity...

If you, if you could return
don't let it burn

don't let it fade

I'm sure I'm happier
but it's just your attitude
it's tearing me apart
it's ruining everyday

Charming of good stuffs in our lifes, like a sharp memory, and they never forsake you. Every cut make my eyes more bittersweet looking on "Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?". Yeah little circle compact disc, there is always a place for you in our collection. " Virtue is the strong stem of man's nature, and music is the blossoming of virtue."-- Confucius

One of the best artist web page that i've ever seen.

Nine Horses - Money For All

Thursday, January 04, 2007

Modern Music Review
Rating: 9/10
Working under the group name of 'Nine Horses' 'Snow Borne Sorrow' is a collaboration between David Sylvian, his brother and frequent collaborator Steve Jansen and electronic composer / remixer Burnt Friedman.

Very Well, in the record, in the middle of it, heartbeat-like sound waves, violins, Sylvian's extreme night-like vocals, attractive back female vocals. No!, not this way enough to describe an album like this. It's the most ridiculous thing to seek for the right words. Because you know that you're never well experienced to tell what music feels to the humanity. I'm sure of it, the feelings that i feel is the purest one. David Sylvian who is absolutely an idol, a genius. I had spent my long-night with his "Secrets Of The Beehive", "Rain Tree Crow" and my night lamp "Blemish". It's really imposible not to tell my adoration while i'm writing this.

Most of the songs seem waiting for a touch to appear, and if they find a connection to reach you that will be love at first sight. The Compositions are as perfect as full moon appearance, honestly i'd call this style as virgin sound. Because you never want to share Sylvian's voice, songs with someone else, and you want it as only yours.

lyrics from his Boy With The Gun:
He knows well his wicked ways
A course of bitterness
A grudge held from his childhood days
As if life had loved him less
Reading down his list of names
He ticks them one by one
He points the barrel at the sky
Firing shots off at the sun
i am the law and i am the king
I am the wisdom, listen to me sing

"Money For All" which includes some remix version of songs from previous Nine Horses album "The Banality of evil","Serotonin", and also two new songs ravishing "Money For All", an inviting alternative dance melody "Get the hell out". This shorten version of the songs was polished fairly good. Various instruments change the atmosphere from dark to blue, jazz to rock, bittersweet to melancholy, and you're finally full of satisfaction.

A truly grader Ep, it never lets you to go. Release date: January 22, 2007
MM picks: Money For All, Get The Hell Out, The Banality Of Evil

Nothing Can Change This Love

Wednesday, January 03, 2007

To love flowers one by one, don't point that gun to me again, and shorten the words to mean more puzzling. I really love this, talking about what the music feels. In fact it won't be the same, your feelings change every time or after every new discovery in music. One of the best feeling about this love is that it'll never end, there is always new things to discover. For the first time, i owed to the sentence "Everything changes". Everthing must change!

And very very meaningful sentences come 'Remember that hope never dies, and it always is darkest before sunrise!' .
A Sam Cooke cover goes by in front of my ears.

...today i had a chance to listen Patrick Wolf's forthcoming "The Magic Position" in Feb 26, before saying a great work, i want to listen more and more. But keep it as a secret there is a song which Marianne Faithfull appears, named "Magpie", the song took my heart at first listen.

The Shins

Tuesday, January 02, 2007

In my opinion "Oh, Inverted World" is one of the definitive indie rock albums of the early 2000s and the Shins as one of the style's definitive bands. But it doesn't mean i'm going to like or must like all Shins releases. Today, i listened that great Inverted again, and yes it was great, never bores you. Gentle guitar melodies and Mercer's innocent vocal was still powerful. Yes while he's singing his well-writen lyrics, he's got lots of thought in his head, funny ones, kind ones, complex ones.

I guess I try to figure out what emotional meaning there is to the music that I've put together. And then hopefully there's something I've been thinking about or pondering, or something that happened to give me a subject to just start writing. There are a lot of different subjects I've been dealing with on the record, but one theme is that having convictions, having certitude, just leads to trouble. And if people simply allowed for the possibility that they were wrong-- if everybody did that-- there would probably never be another war. If you just did that one fucking thing. But of course it would require everyone doing that, but it's a funny idea, or an interesting thing to me at least-- that a simple little thing of just questioning yourself would save the world. You don't even need a new philosophy to explain the world. Just realize that you are who you are, that no god is telling you shit, that you're just doing your little mouse-brained attempt at discovery. James Mercer...And read recent The Shins Interview at Pitchfork.
I think you should take a look at the interview, which brings a bunch of intelligent idea about the band. As a mind, "Wincing the Night Away" touchs you again but still it has some kind of lack of melody, and melody is as important as meaning of the songs.

New year, not new at all

Monday, January 01, 2007

It wasn't snowy new year parade, in fact there was a great sunny weather out here. I wanted to shout all of you happy new year even if it's too late. I hope we'll listen too many great bands, great albums in the new year. Now which albums i'm looking forward this month to write about:

Vietnam - Vietnam Jan 23
The Earlies - The Enemy Chorus Jan 23
OF MONTREAL - Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? Jan 23
Pelican - After the Ceiling Cracked Jan 23
Nine Horses - Money for all January 25
Ghost - In Stormy Nights Jan 27
Skinny Puppy - Mythmaker 30 Jan
Youth Group - Casino Twilight Dogs 30 Jan
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Some Loud Thunder 30 Jan

And an airy alternative work from The Breeders' Last Splash, which is one of my favorite pick from 90s. If you interested in 90s alternative rock scene, i suppose that you had "Last Splash".

So it's the first day of the new year. If you asked me, i would say that all those red things were hanky-panky. Because you should create your own luck, mates. If you believe that only underwear bring your luck back, i have some news for you. That's the hugest waste of time.

Yes the songs really bring my luck back but not red underwear. While you're having your expensive drinks, some of us greet the new year as at the picture below. The photo (12, 31, 2006) was taken by a friend of mine, while we were walking around Istanbul to take some meaningful photos. So you think that it's a new year but pictures don't lie as well as songs do. That's all for now.
