Album of the day
Retreating from the skinned-knee production values of In on the Kill Taker, Red Medicine packs more rhythmic punch and shows more range. With more drive and playful goings-on, the arrangements sound much looser than on Kill Taker, while remaining just as gut-kicking and brainy. The experimentation, which adds liveliness, doesn't sound measured. Even Joe Lally is allowed to sing, and it just happens to be one of the best songs on the record. Running against the theory that Fugazi is a pack of killjoys, numerous instances pop up where the band's twisted sense of humor is apparent. The sinister ha-has that open "Birthday Pony," the android sample in the pleasant (!) instrumental "Combination Lock," and random piano plinks all manage to find a welcome place. But the most uncharacteristic track is the "Blade Runner in Kingston" slo-mo instrumental "Version," featuring clarinet skronks, dubwise rhythm, incidental zaps, and — get this — no guitars. Picciotto declares in the immediately following "Target" that he hates the sound of guitars. What gives? It's clearly a rumination against corporate America's capitalization/bastardization of "punk" aesthetics. If anyone had the right to comment, it was Fugazi. "Back to Base" and "Downed City" (another dubby intro here) return to more standard issue, hardcore roots Fugazi, full of the soaring guitars that the band is most known for. Closing out the nearly flawless second side is yet another contemplative exit track, "Long Distance Runner." Acting as a daily affirmation of sorts to combat lethargy, MacKaye opines, "If I stop to catch my breath/I might catch a piece of death.

Bob Mould - Workbook
album of week
Workbook is the title of Bob Mould's first solo album after leaving Hüsker Dü. The album is
primarily acoustic and has a strong folk influence
Gripping instrumental opening with 'Sunspots',something is warming up from
your inside to this album.
Continuing with 'Wishing Well',i can direcly say vocals and guitars are pure,
succesfull.Particularly you can't escape from vocals while listening 'Wishing Well.
Middle of the song you'll hear enchanting guitar solos.
'Heartbreak A Stranger' has the similar sound of the songs in R.E.M. Automatic for the People.
You'll directly notice the similarity songs between 'Heartbreak A Stranger' and 'nightswimming'
You can also consider Bob Mould with R.E.M. and you aren't wrong.
My opinion is this album quite great.Composition of vocals and guitar are very
concordant.
'See A Little Light' is eating the sounds of 90s.Masterpiece can describe this song.
This album will pull you to its inside.'Poison Years' is the king of sadness
inside the album. You can see influential era of album through 90s.
It's hard to give a label to this masterpiece so we can call it alternative rock.
You don't get bored near end of the album, because every song have different colour.
So it colors your soul. Also it rests your ears. From begining to end,Workbook
is totally a music pleasure.
Intelligence lyrics like:
Things used to be so simple, long time ago
Now everything is so expensive and complicated
I hear you need a license for just about anything
from song named 'Compositions For The Young And Old'.
'Lonely Afternoon' is another song which is different than others. But it also
doesn't disrupt the album. You should taste the atmosphere of this song,it
can't be explained.Workbook have to exist in Top 100 album of all time.Maybe it's
an underground album but now you know about the album:)
Please consider to look these albums too:
Roxy music - stranded
Peter gabriel - so

James Dean Bradfield - The Great Western:review
Rating:10/10
MM Album Review
New album from The manics vocalist James D. Bradfield.Strong lyrics married to distinct musical passages. From the first
tune through the last
James D. shows us how a wanderful album it is.He is proving his succesfull song by song on this album. The majority of the lyrics were written by Bradfield, who had only contributed lyrics to the songs "Ocean Spray" and "Firefight" previously for Manic Street Preachers.
Joining with powerful guitar, this album obviously is going to be one of the important album of the year.
Thanks to James Dean Bradfield for such a good vocals, songs, melodies.Songs
are very melancholic and affecting.
It lets you to feel lots of sense with only 11 tracks.I let my whole body to this album for two days. It's like a drug, maybe you don't want but it wants you.
Also there is an emotional song in this album 'To See A Friend In Tears'.
Complete album. Two many materials can be find.Energetic, melancholic, passionate
and visceral.
Of course you can find materials which are same with manics. So this is a
reason to adore this stuff even if you're not a The Manics fan.But still i can say
you won't find same things, this album creates lots of new things in your brain. In every song, there are majestic electric guitar solos at middle of them. Also James didn't lose anything from his political songwriting. In some songs like 'Bad Boys & Painkillers',choir works add plus the sound of album and makes the album rich, full with soundwaves.'on saturday morning we will rule the world' which song starts slowly ,but on chorus it changes to an alternative Manic song.I see the song is truly rocking all the way.The Great Western including pianos, guitars, indie rock tunes,choirs...
'That's No Way To Tell A Lie' which is first single and a great opening.
'Run Romeo, Run','Say Hello To The Pope','The Wrong Beginning' are perfect songs.Flying of guitars will get you. You'll listen again and again.James Dean Bradfield's The Great Western is superb album which Modern Music wants to hear.
MM picks:Bad boys and painkillers,Run romeo run,Say hello to the pope

Soul Asylum - The Silver Lining
Wednesday, July 12, 2006
Album of the day
Minneapolis, Minnesota '90s alt.rockers Soul Asylum last lured the public with Candy From A Stranger in 1998. Now the band are returning with Silver Lining, a new album due on June 13 via Columbia/Legacy Recordings. The new album was recorded in Minneapolis with Grammy Award-winning producer Steve Hodge (Boston, Sting, Rod Stewart).
Among the songs are "Crazy Mixed Up World," "Standing Water," "Success Is Not So Sweet," "Directions," "Good For You," "Be On My Side," "Oxygen" and "Showtime." The album was the last for bassist Karl Mueller, who succumbed to throat cancer last June, shortly after the recording was finished.
Fellow Minneapolis native Tommy Stinson (The Replacements, Bash And Pop, Guns N' Roses) played bass with the band at a recent Bowery Ballroom show in New York City, as did drummer Michael Bland (Prince, Paul Westerberg).

Thom Yorke - The Eraser (2006)
Tuesday, July 11, 2006
MM Album Review
Rating:5/10
The Eraser is a good ordinary electronic album. But everytime when i'm speaking
about the album i can't get off saying 'it is totally boring album'.Am i listening this album only for Tom Yorke. If another musician had an album like this, would i listen it?I think i don't.Because it's only such a stupid thing to think that 'I'm famaous and frontman of the band so i have to release a solo album',So why did you join a band? You could start as a solo artist. It's all commercial ways.
I don't judge Yorke, but as you see there're lots of sample like that. The eraser is an ordinary electronic indie album,i listened a lot of album better than this one.The Eraser,Analyse,The Clock are considerable song from this album. But when you're getting middle of the album, you can forthwith stop listening.Melodies are good but rancid. If you're dying for Tom Yorke then i can't say anything you should listen this album. You'll be angry with me but still prefer to listen Radiohead albums. And looking forward to listening new Radiohead stuff. You can think it's a bullshit compare Tom yorke with Radiohead but it isn't nonsense.
Picks:Analyse,The clock

Sinead O’Connor - Collaborations
Cover Cover Cover
I'd wanted to write something about this album.According to me,it was one of the important cover album from last year.Becasue you can't see covers like Peter Gabriel, the The,Moby in same album.
Esspecially Kingdom Of Rain, this song has very mature style.I'm listening again and again The The version of this song. And still it has the same old feeling. So that shows us how much the song is original.
On the other hand,She has another cover album named by 'throw down your arms' which contains 12 reggae classic. It's totally summer album. The song named 'Downpresser man' which is one the best original cover i've listened. You should follow old and new albums if you think you're a music lover. This is the reason why i'm writing old and new albums in the same time.
Another highlight from this album is 1000 mirrors,i'm sure you heard about this great cover.Radiohead guitarist was playing at the opening song.
Picks:Kingdom Of Rain,1000 mirrors

Free Songs: Oakley Hall
Song 1: All The Way Down (Oakley Hall)
– unreleased
Could be the song that bassist Jesse Barnes solidifies most of the four tracks done here in Rock Island. It very well could be a dead heat with “Lazy Susan,” but he makes the song gravitational, the deep dripping of his guitar makes you forget that Rachel Cox is singing her dress off over there.
Song 2: Lazy Susan (Oakley Hall)
– original version appears on “Gypsum Strings” on Brah Records
Poor Susan. Like Benedict Arnold, this fateful historical figure is now synonymous with something negative. She’s no traitor, willing to give West Point up to the British, but she is forever known as the person who wanted an easier way than a cupboard to get to her saltine crackers and jelly jars. On a personal note, my Lazy Susan’s not very functional.
Song 3: Light of My Love (Oakley Hall)
– original version appears on “Second Guessing”
Try as you sure well might you will not shake the force of this chorus. It’s an analysis of a lover not taking the love seriously and it’s a premonition that there will be heartarche and yet the music seems to suggest that the wronged party will keep his or her posture. The heartache still sounds like the sunbeam that the love started out as. This is how the greatest country band – Alabama – would sound if they were indie rock and roll.
Preach Rachel, “I’d jump in the water no matter how cold it was.” The sick breakdown at the 2-minutes, 25-second mark will make you want to air organ. It’s evil.
It's all downloadable music and legal free music download. You can find more info at here

In flames - Come Clarity (2006)
Monday, July 10, 2006
Shit Albums
Come Clarity features thirteen explosive tracks, including the
roll-out single and video, "Take this Life".
Well, when it comes to writing about a shit album,it's not very hard.Because you can easly understand with a few spin of listening the album.First of all,the album is preapared in a hurry. When you're first listening the album, you'll instantly say 'Great heavy metal(black or death)',but your ears are playing game to you.Because if you listen previous in flames you'll see that this album full of shit and mean anything. There're few good tracks others are disaster. You won't want to listen them again.I still prefer 10,000 Days by Tool.
This cd is horrible. Almost as horrible as soundtrack to your escape. Where is the old in flames? Dead End is the only + track, and it may be due to the accompanied female vocals.

The Raconteurs - Broken Boy Soldiers 2006
Album of the day
Jack White steps into the eccentricities of the supergroup, and at first glance, this seems to be a band where White's imposing presence could overshadow the rest.
The Raconteurs have really created a solid album here. It may be a little bit on the short side (just over 30 minutes) but there's some real substance here. Broken Boy Soldiers has a true classic rock vibe to it. Jack White is one of my favorite guitarists and here he has a full band behind him.
If you have a favorite Foghat album or if you can name a single member of Deep Purple, you will love BROKEN BOY SOLDIERS.
The music of the 60's & 70's with a little 80's...Beautiful melodies with catchy hooks to get you listening again & again...A must for any music fan with a sense of taste... Jack & Brendon are fantastic!!!
In my opinion, this album can change the atmosphere of your room. You should have this cool stuff in your archive. You can find infos and good comment for this album all the magazines.it's getting one of the populer album for 2006.

Live Section (2006.06.08)
I'd seen him live in Istanbul. It was fascinating.I still excited that i saw him.Beautiful scene, wanderful show with amazing charismatic Roger. He released a live album 'Berlin'.You can get crazy when you're listening this live album. But I still prefer to watch live performance of musicians, live albums are not as exiting as concerts in world music. You can find here some show reviews:

Van Morrison - Astral Weeks (1968)
Album of the day
Astral Weeks is generally considered one of the best albums in pop
music history. For all that renown, Astral Weeks is anything but an archetypal rock & roll album: in fact, it isn't a rock & roll album at all. Employing a mixture of folk, blues, jazz, and classical music, Van Morrison spins out a series of extended ruminations on his Belfast upbringing, including the remarkable character "Madame George" and the climactic epiphany experienced on "Cyprus Avenue." Accompanying himself on acoustic guitar, Morrison sings in his elastic, bluesy voice, accompanied by a jazz rhythm section (Jay Berliner, guitar, Richard Davis, bass, Connie Kay, drums), plus reeds (John Payne) and vibes (Warren Smith, Jr.), with a string quartet overdubbed. An emotional outpouring cast in delicate musical structures, Astral Weeks has a unique musical power. Unlike any record before or since, it nevertheless encompasses the passion and tenderness that have always mixed in the best postwar popular music, easily justifying the critics' raves.
Truly a classic album which you MUST have in your archive.MM madly recommends it.One of the greatest album of all time.
